Central Railway is set to strengthen long-distance connectivity between Mumbai and Prayagraj with the introduction of 44 weekly special train services, aimed at accommodating the anticipated surge in passenger demand during the upcoming travel season. The services, which will operate from mid-February to mid-July 2026, include Extra, Holi, and Summer Specials, and mark a strategic response to rising mobility needs across key urban and regional corridors.
The services are structured to provide comprehensive accommodation options. Each train will comprise a combination of 1 AC 2-Tier coach, 4 AC 3-Tier coaches, 9 Sleeper Class coaches, 8 General Second Class coaches, and 2 Second Seating coaches, along with a Luggage-cum-Guard’s Brake Van. Railway planners emphasise that such diverse coach composition ensures equitable access to travel options across different passenger segments, balancing affordability with comfort for long-haul journeys. The schedule for the LTT–Prayagraj Weekly Special (Train No. 04102) begins on February 17, 2026, departing Lokmanya Tilak Terminus every Tuesday at 4.55 pm and arriving in Prayagraj the following evening. A total of 22 services will operate under this number, including dedicated runs during festival periods and peak summer months. Similarly, the return service (Train No. 04101) will depart Prayagraj every Monday at 6.00 pm, arriving at LTT the next day, also completing 22 weekly runs.
Key halts along the route include Kalyan, Igatpuri (on select services), Nashik, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, and Manikpur, providing enhanced connectivity for intermediate towns and promoting regional economic integration. Urban mobility analysts note that such long-distance train expansions not only improve travel efficiency but also help decongest road networks and reduce carbon emissions associated with bus and car travel. Ticketing has been streamlined to accommodate both advance and on-demand travellers. Bookings for services commencing February 17 will open from February 14 through computerised reservation centres and the official IRCTC platform, while unreserved tickets will be accessible via the UTS system and RailOne app. Officials emphasise that integrating digital ticketing platforms improves passenger convenience and supports operational efficiency.
