Bandra Skywalk Demolition Restarted to Facilitate Metro Line Integration

The dismantling of the skywalk connecting Bandra railway station to the Lucky junction on SV Road is poised to recommence, marking a significant phase in Mumbai’s urban infrastructure development.

Initiated around seven months ago to accommodate the Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar to Mandale), the project aims to streamline transportation networks and enhance connectivity in the bustling Bandra locality. While an earlier phase saw the removal of safety coverings along the skywalk’s sides, the current phase targets the dismantling of remaining structures, including pillars, walkways, and metal bars. This strategic move aligns with broader urban development objectives, prioritising efficient use of public space and integration of multi-modal transportation systems. Raja Rahebar Khan, a former municipal corporator from Bandra West, highlighted the pedestrian challenges posed by the ongoing dismantling process. However, the resurgence of efforts underscores the municipality’s commitment to realising long-term infrastructure goals and fostering sustainable urban growth.

The initiative reflects Mumbai’s proactive approach to infrastructure modernisation, as authorities strive to balance historical preservation with the evolving needs of a dynamic metropolis. As the Bandra skywalk dismantling gains momentum, it signifies a pivotal step towards redefining the city’s skyline and enhancing its accessibility and connectivity networks.
