Rain, thundershowers to continue in Kerala till Sunday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers in a few parts of Kerala until Sunday, after which dry weather conditions are expected to set in across the State. The advisory follows moderate to heavy rainfall reported in several regions on Tuesday. Mannarkkad recorded the highest precipitation at 7 cm, followed by Ottapalam with 6 cm. Peermade received 5 cm, while Vellanikkara and Mannarkkad registered 4 cm each, reflecting widespread but uneven rainfall distribution.

Despite the showers, temperature levels remained high in parts of the State. Palakkad emerged as the hottest location, recording a maximum temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius. Punalur, Kochi, Kannur airport and Kottayam also reported elevated readings of around 35.6 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent heat conditions even amid intermittent rainfall.Humidity levels remained significantly high. Palakkad recorded a relative humidity of 98%, while other centres reported levels ranging between 81% and 87%, contributing to sultry weather conditions.

Meteorologists noted that the combination of rainfall and high humidity may continue to cause discomfort, especially in inland districts. The expected transition to dry weather after Sunday could bring clearer skies but may also lead to a gradual rise in daytime temperatures if cloud cover reduces.Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thundershowers and monitor official weather updates as localised variations may continue in the coming days.
