Gurugram Infrastructure Boost With ₹923 Crore Interchange

Authorities in the National Capital Region are preparing a major road infrastructure upgrade that could significantly reshape connectivity around Gurugram’s emerging urban districts. A ₹923-crore trumpet interchange is planned along the Dwarka Expressway to provide seamless, signal-free access to two large upcoming developments — Global City and Vision City.

The interchange will be constructed near the Pataudi Road junction on the Dwarka Expressway corridor, a strategic location connecting major residential areas, industrial clusters and expanding business districts in Gurugram. The project will be implemented by the National Highways Authority of India, while funding will be provided by the state’s industrial infrastructure development agency. The planned structure will function as a four-lane underground trumpet interchange, designed to allow vehicles to enter and exit the expressway without disrupting high-speed traffic on the main carriageway. This grade-separated layout eliminates signal crossings and improves safety while maintaining continuous vehicle flow on one of NCR’s fastest-growing transport corridors.

To support this system, the project includes approximately 3.2 kilometres of approach roads and ramps that will connect the interchange directly with the internal road networks of Global City and Vision City. These links will enable commuters travelling from Manesar and surrounding areas to access the developments without navigating congested city roads. Engineers are planning to build the underpass component using precast reinforced cement concrete structures through a specialised box-pushing technique, which allows large sections of the underpass to be inserted beneath an operational highway with minimal disruption to traffic above. This method has been increasingly used in major urban highway projects to reduce construction delays and road closures.

Officials involved in planning the project say construction is expected to begin within the next few months once execution arrangements are finalised. The interchange is likely to take around 30 months to complete, given the complexity of building an underground structure beneath a functioning expressway. Urban planners view the project as a critical piece of infrastructure for Gurugram’s next phase of growth. Global City, planned across more than 1,000 acres along the Dwarka Expressway corridor, is envisioned as a large mixed-use development combining commercial districts, residential areas and institutional spaces. Vision City is expected to complement the development as a commercial and business hub on the opposite side of the expressway.

The Dwarka Expressway itself has emerged as one of NCR’s most important urban mobility corridors. The 27.6-kilometre expressway connects Delhi’s Dwarka region with Gurugram, offering an alternative route to the heavily congested Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway. Transport experts say projects like the new trumpet interchange reflect a broader shift in urban highway planning toward grade-separated junctions that support uninterrupted traffic movement while integrating large new developments with regional mobility networks.

As Gurugram continues to expand as a major business and residential centre within NCR, infrastructure investments such as the Dwarka Expressway interchange will play a critical role in shaping how people and goods move across the region’s rapidly evolving urban landscape
