Andhra Pradesh Electric Cooking Appliances Demand Rises

Households across Andhra Pradesh are increasingly turning to electric cooking appliances as concerns around cooking gas availability and rising fuel costs reshape kitchen choices in urban homes.Retailers in cities such as Visakhapatnam report a noticeable surge in purchases of induction stoves, electric kettles and electric cookers over the past few days. Industry observers say the shift reflects households preparing for possible disruptions in LPG supply while also seeking alternative cooking options that rely on electricity rather than gas.

The trend has been visible both in physical retail stores and on e-commerce platforms. Online marketplaces have recorded a spike in demand for electric cooking appliances, with several induction cooktop models temporarily running out of stock due to increased consumer interest. Retail store managers indicate that sales of electric cooking appliances have risen by roughly 10–15 percent within a short period. The growth has surprised some retailers because many households that traditionally relied solely on LPG are now purchasing electric alternatives as a backup solution.

Urban planners say the shift toward electric cooking appliances reflects broader changes in India’s residential energy landscape. As cities expand and households adopt modern appliances, electricity is becoming an increasingly central energy source for domestic activities beyond lighting and cooling. The current rise in demand is partly linked to global energy market uncertainties. Geopolitical tensions affecting oil and gas supply chains have prompted consumers to think about contingency options for everyday needs such as cooking. Even though authorities maintain that domestic LPG supply remains stable, many households prefer to keep an alternative cooking method available.

Cost considerations are also playing a role. For some families, the rising price of LPG refills and occasional delivery delays have made electric cooking appliances an appealing supplement to gas-based cooking systems. A household electric cooktop can serve as a quick solution during peak cooking hours or when waiting for cylinder refills. The shift may also influence how future urban housing projects are designed. Builders and architects are increasingly incorporating higher electrical load capacity and additional kitchen plug points in apartments to accommodate appliances such as induction cooktops, electric ovens and multi-function cooking devices.

Energy experts note that electric cooking appliances can also align with long-term sustainability goals if paired with cleaner power sources. As India expands renewable energy capacity in its electricity grid, electrified household appliances could gradually reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based cooking fuels in dense urban environments. However, the transition is not without challenges. Electric cooking appliances depend on reliable electricity supply, and some older residential buildings lack adequate wiring or plug infrastructure to support multiple high-power devices simultaneously.

Despite these limitations, analysts believe the recent spike in demand signals a longer-term behavioural shift in urban kitchens. As households seek convenience, flexibility and energy resilience, electric cooking appliances may become a standard fixture in modern Indian homes.
