KSRTC to Combat Waterlogging with Permanent Motor Pump

Kochi: In a bid to address the persistent issue of waterlogging at the Ernakulam KSRTC depot, authorities are taking proactive steps by planning to install a permanent motor pump on-site.

Currently, the depot has been utilizing a motor pump on a daily rental basis, incurring a cost of Rs 600 per day to a private agency. This temporary solution, installed near the station master’s cabin, has been operational for the past week, facilitating the drainage of stormwater. To achieve a more sustainable and cost-effective solution, KSRTC officials are exploring the installation of a permanent motor pump at the depot, which is estimated to require an expenditure of Rs 50,000. The initiative aims to mitigate waterlogging issues efficiently and enhance operational efficiency at the depot. “We are actively seeking funds to procure and install a permanent motor pump on-site to address the persistent waterlogging issue,” revealed a source familiar with the matter. However, discussions regarding a new depot complex remain inconclusive at present.

In anticipation of further developments, sources indicate that officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) are expected to visit the depot on Monday to assess the situation firsthand and provide necessary guidance and support.

The proposed installation of a permanent motor pump underscores KSRTC’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges and enhancing operational resilience, ultimately ensuring a smoother and more efficient functioning of the depot.
