Gujarat CM Launches Green Ahmedabad Initiative

AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT: In a significant stride towards environmental conservation, the Gujarat Chief Minister inaugurated the ‘Mission Three Million Trees’ campaign in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The campaign, led by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), targets the plantation of an impressive 30 lakh trees across the city, marking a substantial effort to bolster the urban green cover.

The launch event, orchestrated by the AMC, featured the Chief Minister personally planting trees, symbolising a strong commitment to sustainable development and ecological preservation. This campaign aligns seamlessly with the government’s broader vision of fostering a greener and healthier environment for both current and future generations.

Complementing the tree plantation initiative, the Chief Minister also unveiled a fleet of electric buses under the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS). These eco-friendly buses are set to operate on the newly inaugurated Metro Connectivity Feeder routes and the Riverfront route, enhancing the city’s public transport system with sustainable, emission-free options.

In a further bid to promote environmental sustainability, the AMC introduced RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) vans during the event. These vans are designed to facilitate responsible waste management by collecting surplus items such as old clothes, shoes, household items, toys, books, and small furniture from citizens. The collected items will be processed for recycling or reuse, thereby significantly contributing to waste reduction and promoting a cleaner urban environment.

The ‘Mission Three Million Trees’ campaign, along with the rollout of electric buses and the introduction of RRR vans, exemplifies a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship and urban development. By expanding the green cover, promoting sustainable transportation, and implementing effective waste management practices, Ahmedabad aspires to set a benchmark for environmental innovation and sustainability.
