Heavy Rain Hits Telangana, Yellow Alert Issued

HYDERABAD: Several parts of Telangana experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday, with Hyderabad witnessing substantial downpours. The highest recorded rainfall within the city was 43.5 mm in Kapra, followed by 35.3 mm in Hayathnagar, 23.3 mm in Secunderabad, 21.8 mm in Uppal, 19.3 mm in Malkajgiri, 18 mm in Saroornagar, and 15.8 mm in Gajularamaram.

Across the state, the highest rainfall was recorded in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri at 69 mm. Other notable figures include 65.8 mm in Siddipet, 65.5 mm in Medchal Malkajgiri, 60.5 mm in Medak, 46.5 mm in Nirmal, and 45.5 mm in Sangareddy.

The directorate of enforcement vigilance and disaster management (EVDM) reported attending to four complaints of tree and branch falls and nine instances of water stagnation until 8 pm. This highlights the immediate impact of the heavy rains on the urban infrastructure and the response required to mitigate these issues.

In response to the current weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Telangana for the next two days. The forecast includes thunderstorms accompanied by rain, lightning, and gusty winds. These weather events are expected to occur in isolated areas across several districts, including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

The issuance of the yellow alert indicates the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness. Citizens are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. This includes avoiding travel during peak rain hours, securing loose objects that might be blown away by gusty winds, and being prepared for potential power outages and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The state administration, along with disaster management teams, is on high alert to address any emergencies that may arise due to the anticipated weather conditions. Efforts are underway to ensure that necessary resources and response teams are in place to manage the impact effectively.

The heavy rainfall and subsequent yellow alert serve as a reminder of the challenges posed by extreme weather events. Continuous monitoring and proactive measures are crucial in mitigating the adverse effects on the population and infrastructure. The IMD’s alert underscores the importance of preparedness and responsive action in the face of potential natural calamities.

As the state braces for the continued impact of the monsoon, the collaborative efforts of meteorological agencies, disaster management authorities, and the general public will be key in navigating through the challenges presented by the heavy rains and associated weather phenomena.
