BMC Targets Unauthorized Versova Constructions

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized developments in Versova Village, demolishing another illegal, under-construction building in Shiv Galli on Wednesday. This operation is part of a series of demolition drives aimed at curbing illegal constructions in the area.

The latest demolition follows previous actions on June 3, June 4, and June 11, targeting multiple structures built on ecologically sensitive marshlands and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas. These efforts underline BMC’s commitment to preserving Mumbai’s ecological balance and ensuring adherence to urban planning regulations.

Wednesday’s operation was spearheaded by a team of 10 BMC officers, supported by 50 labourers, 2 poclain machines, 3 gas cutters, and 10 electric breakers. The focus was a substantial unauthorized G+2 building spanning approximately 8,000 square feet. The structure was successfully demolished, reflecting BMC’s resolve in tackling illegal developments.

A special demolition squad, formed after the initial drive, remains active to prevent the emergence of new unauthorized structures in the region. This ongoing vigilance and enforcement by BMC are integral to its broader mission of maintaining ecological integrity and promoting regulated urban development. The continued efforts of the BMC in Versova exemplify a proactive approach to urban management, prioritising environmental conservation and regulatory compliance.
