Arunachal to Hand Over 5 Hydropower Projects to CPSUs

The government of Arunachal Pradesh has decided to hand over five terminated hydropower projects with a total generation capacity of 2,823 mw to two Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), Neepco and SJVN. The move is expected to unlock the potential of these projects and generate huge investment in the state, creating employment opportunities. The five projects are estimated to require an investment of INR 40,000 crore over the next five to seven years.

Neepco will take charge of two projects — Naying (1,000 mw) and Hirong (500 mw), while SJVN will develop Emini (500 mw), Amulin (420 mw), and Minundon (400 mw). Through the development of these projects, Arunachal will play a significant role in India’s commitment to increasing non-fossil energy capacity to 500 gw.

To facilitate the state’s development, the Cabinet has approved the investment of revenue generated by the state government from the power sector into government bonds for development of Arunachal Pradesh. The development of these projects is expected to spur massive investment in the state, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy goals.
