Gadkari Announces INR 2 Lakh-crore Road Infra for Jharkhand

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the country’s first double-decker elevated corridor near Jamshedpur and announced plans for road infrastructure worth INR 2 lakh crore in Jharkhand by 2024.

The 10.4 km-long double-decker elevated corridor will be built at a cost of INR 1,876 crore and ease traffic movement on NH-33 connecting Ranchi and Kolkata. The bottom lane of the corridor will be used by locals, while the first lane will be used by heavy vehicles moving between Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand. The second lane will be used exclusively by long-distance vehicles that do not need to enter Jamshedpur.

The project, which will take over two years to complete after commencement of work, is expected to drive commercial development in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. In addition to the double-decker elevated corridor, a 44 km stretch between Jamshedpur and Mahulta on NH-33 was also inaugurated at a cost of INR 465 crore.
