UP’s New ₹2,000 Crore Bioplastic Park for Sustainability

The government of Uttar Pradesh is planning to set up a bioplastic park in Kumbhi village, Gola Gokarnnath tehsil, Lakhimpur Kheri district to address environmental pollution and encourage the sustainable use of plastic. This significant project, requiring an investment of ₹2,000 crore, aims to promote environmental sustainability, create job opportunities, and benefit different industries by utilizing bioplastics.

Bioplastics, derived from natural materials such as corn, sunflower, and sugar beet, offer a significant advantage over traditional plastics due to their quick decomposition. This reduces environmental pollution and contributes to the sustainability goals of the region. According to a press statement, the use of bioplastics is not limited to a single industry but extends to packaging, ready-made garments, electronics, and other industrial products, thereby significantly mitigating the threat of plastic pollution.

The park, which will cover 1,000 hectares of land, is being led by the Balrampur Sugar Mill Firm. This project is expected to generate a significant number of jobs, leading to the establishment of various supporting industries in the area. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is the designated nodal agency for this development. The creation of the bioplastic park is expected to provide new employment opportunities, especially in scientific and technical fields. It will act as a center for scientists and researchers to improve plastic manufacturing capabilities through advanced technologies and research. The park’s focus on developing and studying various plastic-related technologies aims to enhance the industry’s capabilities and encourage innovation.
