Pune Metro’s PCMC Nigdi Extension Progresses With First Pile Cap Casting

Pune’s metro expansion has marked a significant milestone as Maha Metro successfully cast the first pile cap for the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) – Nigdi Extension of the city’s Purple Line.

This achievement, accomplished on 6th July at the PMP Anna Bhau Sathe Bus Terminal near Bhakti Shakti Chowk, underscores the rapid progress of Pune Metro’s Phase 1 extension. The extension, spanning 4.5 km and part of the 16.589 km Purple Line, has seen swift development following the awarding of a Rs. 339.23 crore contract to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro). The project includes the construction of 151 spans and casting of 1181 segments at the Talegaon yard location.

Initially conceptualized under the guidance of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Pune Metro Phase 1 project covers 31.254 km with two corridors and 29 stations. Alongside this expansion, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is concurrently working on a new corridor linking Hinjewadi and Civil Court, enhancing connectivity across the metropolitan area. Looking forward, plans for Pune Metro Phase 2 are in the nascent stage, awaiting the detailed project report (DPR). Anticipated extensions and new corridors under Phase 2 are expected to connect pivotal areas such as Katraj, Chandni Chowk, Kharadi, Hadapsar, Loni Kalbhor, Khadakwasla, and Warje, aiming to further bolster Pune’s urban mobility infrastructure.

The successful casting of the pile cap at PCMC-Nigdi Extension signifies not only progress in infrastructure development but also a significant step towards enhancing public transportation efficiency in Pune. As construction advances, stakeholders and residents alike anticipate continued momentum in Pune Metro’s expansion initiatives, poised to transform the city’s commuting landscape in the coming years. This development underscores Pune’s commitment to sustainable urban growth and reinforces the city’s position among India’s leading metro networks, supporting economic vitality and community connectivity across the region.
