Lucknow Braces for Intensified Monsoon with Yellow Alert Issued

Lucknow and several districts across Uttar Pradesh are preparing for intensified monsoon conditions as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a ‘yellow alert’ for the state capital from Thursday onwards.

The alert comes amidst forecasts of increased rainfall and thunderstorms expected to impact the region. Currently, the IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for 12 and nine districts respectively, with this number set to rise significantly to 40 districts by Thursday. According to senior meteorologists at the Lucknow Met department, the city and western Uttar Pradesh are anticipated to witness harsher monsoon effects over the next few days. This prediction extends to a heightened risk of flooding and rising water levels in various areas.

“We expect intense and continuous spells of rain and thundershowers in multiple districts until at least July 13,” stated an official, emphasizing the prolonged nature of the anticipated weather pattern. Recent weather data indicates that Ghazipur received the highest rainfall at 45.8 mm on Tuesday, followed by Etawah (12 mm) and Muzaffarnagar (11 mm). The IMD’s forecast underscores the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated locations across East Uttar Pradesh and widespread rain or thundershowers in West Uttar Pradesh.

Humidity levels in Lucknow have seen a slight decline, with maximum relative humidity recorded at 89% and minimum at 64%, compared to Monday’s figures of 95% and 71% respectively. Other regions such as Basti, Najibabad, and Meerut experienced cooler nights, while Varanasi, Kanpur (IAF), and Basti reported warmer morning temperatures. As the monsoon intensifies across the state, residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The upcoming days are crucial as Uttar Pradesh prepares to manage the impact of severe monsoon conditions expected to persist into the weekend.
