Southern Railway Adjusts Routes for Tambaram Yard Renovation; Train Services Affected

Chennai: Southern Railway has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of the Tambaram yard to undertake crucial engineering and signal upgrade works, scheduled from July 23 to August 18. This ambitious project necessitates significant adjustments to the schedules of several express and mail trains, impacting travel across the region.

As part of the remodelling efforts, Southern Railway has taken proactive measures including the cancellation, partial cancellation, and diversion of numerous train services. Key changes include the complete cancellation of Tambaram-Nagercoil Antyodaya Superfast Express (Train No. 20691) and Nagercoil-Tambaram Antyodaya Express (Train No. 20692) from July 23 to 31. 19 train services are slated for partial cancellation, with alterations to their originating stations. Notable among these adjustments is the rerouting of Chennai Egmore-Madurai Vaigai Express (Train No. 12635), Chennai Egmore-Tiruchirappalli Rocket Express (Train No. 12653), and Karaikkudi-Chennai Egmore Pallavan Superfast Express (Train No. 12606), which will now commence and terminate at Chengalpattu railway station from July 24 to August 1.

Additionally, seven train services will be rerouted to either skip or terminate at Egmore railway station, affecting routes such as Tambaram-New Tinsukia Express (Train No. 15929), Jasidih-Tambaram Superfast Express (Train No. 12376), and Tambaram-Santragach Antyodaya Express (Train No. 22842), among others. The remodelling work also entails the diversion of seven train services, including Bikaner-Madurai Superfast Express (Train No. 22632) and Egmore-Salem Superfast (Train No. 22153), which will be rerouted via alternative stations such as Perambur and Chennai Beach during specific periods.

Passengers traveling on Puducherry-New Delhi Express (Train No. 22403), Rameswaram-Banaras Weekly Superfast (Train No. 22535), Tiruchi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Humsafar Express (Train No. 20482), and other affected routes are advised to check updated schedules and route changes. Detailed information regarding revised timetables and alternative arrangements can be accessed through Southern Railway’s official channels. These strategic upgrades aim to bolster safety, reliability, and service quality across the rail network, aligning with broader modernization goals in Indian railway infrastructure.
