HMDA Proposes New Iconic Cable-Stayed Bridge in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has initiated preparations for a significant infrastructure project: a 2.65 km-long, four-lane cable-stayed bridge spanning the historic Mir-Alam Tank in Bahadurpura. This new bridge will mark Hyderabad’s second iconic high-level cable-stayed structure, following the successful construction of the bridge over Durgam Cheruvu.

The proposed bridge will create a crucial link between Chinthalmet Road and the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway, enhancing connectivity and streamlining traffic flow in the region. The State government granted administrative sanction for the project in March, with an estimated cost of Rs 363 crore. The bridge itself will extend 2.21 km, with entry ramps measuring 205 metres and 140 metres on either side of the tank. The exit ramp will span 110 metres. These dimensions are designed to accommodate heavy traffic while ensuring efficient ingress and egress. In addition to the bridge, the project encompasses beautification efforts for the lakefront, aimed at transforming the area into a vibrant hub for tourists and commuters. This component of the project will be executed through a public-private partnership (PPP), highlighting the HMDA’s commitment to integrating infrastructure development with community engagement.

The development of the new cable-stayed bridge underscores Hyderabad’s ambition to enhance its infrastructure and support urban growth. By linking key transport routes and improving the lakefront’s appeal, the HMDA aims to boost economic activity and provide a modernised transit experience for the city’s residents and visitors. Overall, this initiative represents a substantial investment in Hyderabad’s future, reflecting a broader trend of infrastructural advancements aimed at addressing urban challenges and fostering regional development. As the HMDA finalises its proposals, the project promises to become a landmark addition to Hyderabad’s growing network of high-profile infrastructure projects.
