Rain Causes Major Traffic Snarls on Highways

Heavy rainfall across Palghar district has severely disrupted traffic flow on major highways connecting Mumbai with other key locations. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway, particularly around the Ghodbunder junction, experienced significant congestion on Thursday.

Compounding the traffic woes, a one-kilometre stretch in Khopoli on the Mumbai-Pune highway was inundated due to persistent torrential rain, leading to a crawl in traffic movement. In the Borghat section of the Mumbai-Pune expressway, an over-dimensional consignment being transported by a multi-axle vehicle caused further delays. The vehicle, heading towards Pune, reduced traffic to a standstill for approximately an hour during the afternoon, exacerbating the already strained travel conditions. Travelers lamented that even minor stretches between Kalyan and Thane were taking nearly an hour to cross, highlighting the severe impact of the weather on travel efficiency.

Commuters on the Nashik highway reported prolonged delays due to the combined effects of heavy rainfall and road infrastructure issues. The torrential downpour has aggravated the existing problems of potholes and bottlenecks on this crucial arterial route linking Mumbai with Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Nashik. The impact of the monsoon on traffic infrastructure has led to calls for urgent improvements. The ongoing issues underscore the need for better road maintenance and flood management strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of heavy rainfall on essential transportation routes.
