Indore Airport Slips Out of Top 10 List Amid Declining Service Quality

The Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore has once again failed to secure a spot among India’s top 10 airports, according to the latest survey by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This setback, revealed in the second-quarter Airport Service Quality (ASQ) report, underscores persistent issues with service and maintenance at the airport.

In the second quarter of this year, which includes April, May, and June, the airport has been ranked 12th, a position unchanged from the previous quarter. This marks a significant drop from the top position it held last year. The decline in rankings is attributed to a decrease in performance across all 31 metrics assessed in the survey, with the most notable impact coming from flight delays. The AAI report, released late on Monday, shows that the airport received a score of 4.66 out of 5 this quarter, a decline from the 4.74 it achieved in the first quarter. In contrast, leading airports such as Goa, Chennai, Trichy, Varanasi, and Kolkata received scores ranging from 4.89 to 4.93. The significant disparity highlights the widening gap between Indore’s airport and the top performers.

The survey has pointed to a decrease of 0.27 points in the ease of connection with other flights, largely due to persistent delays in flights, particularly those bound for major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. These delays have resulted in passengers frequently missing their connecting flights, further exacerbating the negative perception of the airport’s service quality. Additional concerns were raised regarding various other services at the airport, which were also found to be lacking. The ongoing issues suggest a need for urgent improvements in both operational efficiency and customer service to restore the airport’s standing and enhance passenger satisfaction.

As Indore’s airport struggles to maintain its previous high standards, it faces a pressing challenge to address these service deficiencies. With the competitive landscape of airport rankings continually evolving, significant efforts will be required to regain its position among the country’s top airports and to meet the expectations of its passengers.
