MHADA to Offer 2,000 Affordable Homes in 2024

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to launch its much-anticipated housing lottery for 2024, offering a total of 2,000 affordable homes across Mumbai. This announcement was made by Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MHADA, who detailed the upcoming lottery’s scope and structure.

The forthcoming lottery will cater predominantly to the lower income group (LIG), mid-income group (MIG), and economically weaker section (EWS). However, a select number of homes will be available for the higher income group (HIG), including some premium 3 BHK apartments in Goregaon. This move aligns with MHADA’s objective to provide housing solutions across various income brackets while also including a few upscale options.

Jaiswal confirmed that the lottery is scheduled to launch in September, with precise dates to be announced shortly. To streamline the application process, MHADA has introduced a mobile application where prospective applicants can register. Once registered, individuals will be able to apply for the lottery as soon as it goes live. For the EWS category, homes typically start at around INR 30 lakh. In contrast, 3 BHK apartments under the HIG category could exceed INR 1 crore, reflecting the premium nature of these units.

Applicants for the EWS category must have a family income of up to INR 6 lakh per annum, while those in the LIG category should have an income between INR 6 lakh and INR 9 lakh. The MIG category is for those earning between INR 9 lakh and INR 12 lakh annually, and the HIG category is for families with an income exceeding INR 12 lakh per annum. MHADA officials clarified that family income for the purposes of the lottery is calculated based on the combined annual income of a married couple. Income from parents or siblings is not considered in this assessment.
