Navi Mumbai Enforces Tough Stance on Illegal Builds

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has significantly intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions, implementing stringent measures that include hefty fines and demolitions. Spearheaded by the Commissioner, this latest initiative reflects a robust effort to address the growing problem of unauthorised building activities within the city.

The NMMC’s enforcement drive recently targeted multiple illegal structures across various sectors, including Sector-04 Airoli, Vashi village, and Karave Gaon. The operation led to the demolition of several buildings and imposed a cumulative penalty of ₹30,000 on the offending properties. This decisive action follows persistent violations despite prior notices and warnings. In Sector-04, Airoli, the demolition team focused on buildings B-196, B-197, and Q-92, which were constructed without the necessary approvals. Despite being served a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, the constructions continued unabated. The NMMC responded by deploying heavy machinery, including breakers and JCBs, to dismantle the structures and enforce compliance.

Similarly, in Vashi village, the NMMC targeted illegal construction at House No. 30, Vashi Gaon. The construction, commenced without official approval, persisted despite receiving formal notice from the municipal authorities. The demolition campaign in Vashi aimed to rectify this breach of regulations and restore adherence to municipal guidelines. In Karave Gaon, Belapur, further enforcement actions were taken against illegal structures at House No-03, Se-36, and Survey No – 108/110. Despite issuing notices, the construction activities continued, prompting the Belapur division to execute a thorough demolition operation.

The crackdown saw significant involvement from key NMMC officials, including Assistant Commissioners and Junior Engineers. The operation utilised a range of equipment such as electrical hammers, poklans, pickups, and JCBs to ensure the efficient removal of the unauthorised constructions. The NMMC has indicated that it will persist with these rigorous measures to curb illegal building activities, aiming to uphold urban planning standards and enforce regulatory compliance. This intensified stance underscores the municipality’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of urban development in Navi Mumbai, addressing the challenges posed by unauthorised construction, and ensuring that all building activities are conducted within the framework of legal and planning regulations.
