Minister Sets Deadlines for Urban Infrastructure Projects

The State Urban Development Minister issued a stern warning to agencies responsible for infrastructure projects, threatening legal action if deadlines are not met. The minister’s directive came during a review meeting held on Tuesday, where he expressed his dissatisfaction with the sluggish progress of several ongoing projects under his department’s purview.

The minister underscored that despite substantial support from the urban development department, many projects are lagging behind schedule. He emphasised the need for expedited work and the resolution of common bottlenecks such as land acquisition issues and delays in obtaining no objection certificates. The directive aims to streamline the completion process and ensure that projects deliver their intended benefits to the public in a timely manner. In particular, the minister stressed that projects nearing completion, specifically those that are approximately 90% finished and operational, should be inaugurated without further delay. This is to ensure that the benefits of these projects are made available to the community as soon as possible. Among the projects highlighted were the Kantatoli flyover, Transport Nagar in Sukurhutu, and Ravindra Bhavan. The minister has instructed that the Kantatoli flyover be completed and officially opened by the end of this month, while work on Transport Nagar and Ravindra Bhavan should be finalised within the same timeframe.

Additionally, the minister has called upon municipal bodies to enhance cleanliness efforts to prevent the spread of diseases, particularly in the monsoon season. This public health precaution aligns with the broader agenda of improving urban infrastructure and services. In response to the minister’s directives, JUIDCO officials have announced that temporary repairs are being carried out on the service lane of the Kantatoli flyover to alleviate current traffic issues. They assured that these repairs would be completed within the next two days, aiming to mitigate disruptions for commuters.

The minister’s actions highlight a robust approach to infrastructure management, reflecting a commitment to ensuring that public projects meet their deadlines and serve their purpose efficiently.
