Hyderabad Civic Body Calls for Dog Feeder Registration

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated a voluntary registration process for individuals who feed street dogs, urging them to enrol via a dedicated link or QR code. This initiative is part of the civic body’s broader effort to promote harmonious coexistence between the city’s human and animal populations while ensuring the welfare of stray dogs.

By registering, dog feeders will collaborate with the GHMC in identifying appropriate feeding locations, strategically positioned away from heavily populated public areas to minimise potential human-animal conflicts. This partnership is crucial as it not only ensures the well-being of the animals but also addresses public safety concerns. Registered feeders will be provided with essential information regarding responsible feeding practices, guidelines on animal welfare, and opportunities to actively participate in sterilisation and vaccination drives. These initiatives are pivotal in controlling the stray dog population and curbing the spread of rabies, a significant public health concern. The GHMC has underscored the importance of the role played by street dog feeders in identifying unsterilised dogs. Prompt reporting of such cases allows the civic body to carry out timely sterilisation and vaccination, thereby contributing to effective population control measures.

To maximise the impact of this initiative, GHMC has called upon animal welfare organisations to support the registration drive by encouraging street dog feeders to participate. This collaborative approach aims to create a safer, healthier, and more compassionate urban environment for both humans and animals in Hyderabad. The registration of dog feeders represents a proactive step towards fostering a community-driven effort in managing the city’s stray dog population while enhancing public safety and animal welfare. As GHMC continues to engage with citizens and welfare organisations, the initiative is poised to contribute significantly to the city’s vision of a more humane and orderly urban landscape.
