Noida Upgrades Power Infrastructure to Combat Outages

The Noida Power Department has embarked on a significant infrastructure upgrade in two key sectors: Rajat Vihar C Block in Sector 62 and PK Abadi plot in Sector 122. This initiative, initiated on Monday, is expected to be completed by the end of August 2024.

The decision to enhance the power infrastructure follows a series of meetings between local residents and officials from the Noida Power Corporation Limited (NPCL). The residents of Rajat Vihar Sector 62, represented by their Resident Welfare Association (RWA), had previously raised concerns about persistent power outages, system overloading, and other related issues during a meeting with the NPCL’s subdivisional officer (SDO) and junior engineer (JE). Sector 62, which houses approximately 4,000 residents across 1,000 flats and duplex villas, has been plagued by frequent power disruptions, voltage fluctuations, and system tripping. In response, the power department has outlined a comprehensive upgrade plan that includes the installation of 1.1 km of high-tension (HT) underground cables within the green belt area, replacement of 1.2 km of old and damaged low-tension (LT) underground cables, and the replacement of 12 deteriorated poles. Additionally, 18 outdated feeder pillars and 13 LT air circuit breakers (ACBs) will be installed to protect the distribution transformer. Officials have assured that these measures will resolve the tripping issues once the HT and LT cables are properly laid.

In parallel, Sector 122’s PK Abadi plot is also undergoing significant improvements. During a recent meeting, the RWA general secretary and other members engaged with power department officials to discuss the sector’s power challenges. Upcoming enhancements include replacing rusted electricity poles, installing ACBs in transformers, trimming overhanging trees that obstruct power lines, and repairing damaged jumpers. Furthermore, a proposal for a new transformer has been approved to address the sector’s overloading issues, with installation slated to occur shortly. This comprehensive power infrastructure overhaul underscores the Noida Power Department’s commitment to resolving long-standing power supply issues and improving overall reliability for its residents. As work progresses, it is anticipated that these upgrades will significantly reduce outages and enhance the stability of the power supply in these critical areas.
