BMC Hosts 1044 Tiranga Rallies for Independence Day
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched an extensive series of events under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, urging citizens across Mumbai to display the national flag prominently at their homes.
This nationwide initiative, championed by the central government and running from August 9 to 15, aims to foster a deep sense of patriotism and commemorate India’s national heroes. The BMC has organised a remarkable 1,044 Tiranga rallies throughout the city from August 9 to August 13. These rallies, which include significant involvement from the education department, have seen enthusiastic participation from over 100,000 students, as reported by the BMC’s public relations department. The rallies span all 277 civic wards, aiming to engage the public actively in the campaign.
In a visually striking move, the BMC has illuminated its Modak Sagar and Tanda reservoirs with tricolour lights, creating a spectacular display of national pride. To amplify awareness and participation, the civic body has also implemented a unique strategy: broadcasting the ‘Gharo Ghari Tiranga’ anthem through 1,070 garbage collection vehicles. Additionally, 134 selfie booths and signature canvases have been installed at 106 locations across Mumbai, offering residents ample opportunities to engage with the campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced the campaign during his July Mann Ki Baat address, encouraging citizens to participate in this symbolic gesture of unity. Modi emphasised the growing trend of sharing selfies with the national flag on social media and urged leaders and workers to ensure that flags are displayed prominently on homes, offices, and shops throughout the campaign period.
