30-Minute Disruption on Chennai Metro Green Line
On Sunday afternoon, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) faced a brief but impactful disruption due to a technical glitch affecting the Green Line service. The interruption, which occurred around noon, resulted in a temporary suspension of direct train services between Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MG Ramachandran Central and Chennai International Airport stations. The issue, however, was swiftly addressed, with CMRL restoring normal operations within 30 minutes.
CMRL promptly communicated the situation through its official X handle, stating, “The technical glitch has been resolved. Metro Train services on the Blue Line and Green Line have resumed normal operations.” The authority extended its apologies for any inconvenience caused to passengers during the brief outage. Earlier in the day, CMRL had already alerted passengers to expect minor delays of 2-5 minutes on both the Green and Blue Lines. Despite the technical issue, services on the Green Line continued to operate as scheduled between Wimco Nagar Depot and the Airport station, and from Central to St. Thomas Mount during the disruption.
The temporary suspension underscores the challenges urban transit systems face in maintaining uninterrupted service. While CMRL managed to resolve the issue expeditiously, the incident highlights the importance of robust technical support and contingency planning to minimise passenger inconvenience in future scenarios. The swift response from CMRL reflects their commitment to operational efficiency and customer service, ensuring that disruptions are promptly managed to maintain the reliability of Chennai’s expanding metro network.
