Dharavi Redevelopment MVA Demands 500 Sq Ft Homes

The Shiv Sena (UBT) government has pledged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will annul the Dharavi redevelopment project unless residents are assured of 500 square feet homes. Speaking at the ‘Dharavi Bachao’ rally, they  outlined the MVA’s stance on the contentious issue and criticised the current government’s approach to the project.

Their address highlighted growing discontent with the state government’s handling of the redevelopment initiative, accusing it of prioritising the interests of the Adani Group over the welfare of Dharavi’s residents. He alleged that the government plans to relocate residents to inadequate salt pan lands instead of providing them with sufficient housing. The MVA, he asserted, is committed to ensuring that all current residents are rehoused in their existing locality, and failure to do so would lead to the project’s termination.

The rally also saw criticism of the state government’s delay in holding Maharashtra assembly elections, which they attributed to governmental fear. He drew attention to rising farmer suicides and unemployment, and the influx of 18 lakh youths in Mumbai for police recruitment. He condemned the Mumbadevi Temple beautification project, which he claimed involved displacing shopkeepers to make way for new construction. He also condemned the controversy surrounding the Waqf Board, asserting that the Shiv Sena (UBT) would oppose any attempts to cede Waqf or temple lands to builders.
