Power Outage at BMC Headquarters Resolved in 40 Minutes
A brief power outage affected the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters on Thursday evening, disrupting electricity supply for approximately 40 minutes. The disruption, caused by a technical fault, was swiftly addressed, and normal operations resumed without significant impact on the corporation’s routine functions, according to official reports.
The power cut occurred at around 7:10 PM due to a technical issue in a 33-kilovolt feeder located in the Esplanade area of Fort. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, responsible for electricity distribution in the city, quickly responded to the situation. Power was restored by 7:50 PM, with officials describing the incident as a minor problem. Despite the temporary disruption, the BMC’s operations remained largely unaffected. Civic officials asserted that the headquarters is equipped with an alternative power supply system designed for such contingencies. This backup system was immediately activated, ensuring that essential services, including those provided by the disaster control room, continued without interruption. An official from the disaster control room confirmed that all helplines and critical operations remained fully functional during the outage. “We have a robust alternative arrangement in place for the disaster control room. As soon as the power went off, the backup system was engaged, and we promptly coordinated with BEST officials to resolve the issue,” the official stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the power cut led to a brief disruption, but the swift restoration ensured that BMC’s essential services were not compromised. The incident underscores the importance of having reliable backup systems in place to maintain continuity of operations, particularly in critical public service institutions like the BMC headquarters. As the situation was resolved efficiently, BMC officials reassured that all necessary measures are in place to handle such technical faults promptly, minimising any potential inconvenience to the corporation’s operations and the public.
