100 E-buses to Revolutionise Public Transport in Noida

The Noida Authority has directed the Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Urban Transport to develop a comprehensive action plan to deploy 100 electric buses in the region. These buses will operate across 27 routes, with 13 in Noida, nine in Greater Noida, and five in the Yamuna Expressway region. The initiative, part of the Prime Minister’s E-bus Sewa scheme, aims to enhance urban mobility by providing eco-friendly, efficient transport options.

The E-bus Sewa scheme is designed to introduce 10,000 electric buses across India on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The UP Directorate of Urban Transport presented the project details to Noida Authority officials, outlining how the first phase will streamline public transport by introducing 100 e-buses in Gautam Budh Nagar district. Based on the demand and success of the service, the fleet may be expanded in the future. These electric buses will significantly boost connectivity, linking major areas within Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region. One route will connect Noida to Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida, ensuring seamless travel between key urban centres. Additionally, these buses will cover arterial roads and major destinations, including metro stations, commercial areas, government offices, and residential sectors, thereby offering a more integrated and sustainable transport solution.

Officials from Noida Authority have emphasised the urgency of this project, noting that they have directed all stakeholders to expedite the process. The Centre will supply the electric buses, while Noida Authority will support the operator in managing the project. To ensure the smooth functioning of the e-bus service, the authority will construct depots, charging stations, and bus stops along the designated routes. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will issue tenders to finalise an agency responsible for procuring and operating the buses, with the service expected to begin within 5-6 months. Financial support from the Centre will be provided under the E-bus Sewa scheme, while Noida Authority will handle the operational costs. Similarly, the Greater Noida Authority is also working on launching its own electric bus service under this scheme, aiming to alleviate the public transport burden in the region.
