Navi Mumbai Plans INR 850 Cr Hospital

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a significant initiative by inviting bids for the construction of the city’s inaugural civic super-specialty hospital.  This landmark project, set to be developed on an 8.50-acre site in Sector 15A, Belapur, is projected to cost INR 850 crore.

The comprehensive plan also includes the establishment of a medical college, highlighting the city’s commitment to enhancing its healthcare infrastructure. The project is strategically phased, with the first phase requiring an investment of INR 250 crore. This initial phase will focus on constructing a seven-storey hospital building, designed to provide high-end medical services. The facility will offer specialised care in urology, neurology, nephrology, and cardiothoracic fields. The ground floor will accommodate parking for approximately 400 vehicles, a crucial feature to support the hospital’s operations.

Additionally, the hospital will house an academic wing dedicated to nursing and postgraduate education, reflecting its dual role as a healthcare provider and a medical training centre. The facility will also include an engineering yard, accommodations for patients’ families, and a visitor area, ensuring a comprehensive support system for patients and their relatives. The project has faced opposition from certain proposal-affected persons (PAPs), who argue that the site was initially earmarked for cricket activities.

The land, referred to as plot number 4, was allocated to the NMMC by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) in 2022. This development was facilitated by Manda Mhatre, the Belapur BJP MLA, whose advocacy was instrumental in securing the land and negotiating a reduced price from INR 107 crore to INR 60 crore. Once operational, the super-specialty hospital is expected to significantly alleviate the need for residents to travel to Mumbai or other locations for advanced medical care. This project represents a substantial investment in Navi Mumbai’s healthcare sector, promising to enhance local medical services and provide critical support to the city’s growing population.
