Greater Noida Water Contamination Affects Over 500

Greater Noida has been grappling with a severe water contamination issue that has affected over 500 residents of the Supertech Eco Village 2 residential complex. The crisis primarily impacts residents of towers C1, C2, and C5, who have reported a range of health problems stemming from the contaminated water supply.

In response to the escalating situation, private hospitals swiftly organised a health camp on Wednesday, which saw an influx of affected individuals seeking medical attention. This follows an earlier initiative by the Gautam Buddha Nagar Health Department, which held a similar camp on Tuesday and recorded 339 cases of waterborne illnesses. The affected residents, including a significant number of children and elderly individuals, are experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and fever. The Greater Noida Authority has promptly intervened by collecting and testing water samples from the affected society. CEO of the authority, has instructed the water supply department to launch a comprehensive investigation.

On Tuesday, a team led by General Manager and a Senior Manager inspected the water supply network. While no immediate faults were identified within the authority-managed water system, the samples have been sent for detailed analysis. The investigation has also included discussions with residents, who speculate that a recent cleaning of the society’s internal tank might have led to the contamination. The General Manager of the Water Supply Department, clarified that the authority is responsible only for supplying water to the society’s reservoir. The distribution of water to individual residences falls under the purview of the builder or the Apartment Owners Association (AOA).

This incident highlights a broader issue of water contamination risks during the monsoon season, exacerbated by frequent flooding and waterlogging. Similar issues were reported earlier this year in Ghaziabad’s Saya Gold Avenue Society, where around 400 residents fell ill due to contaminated water. The authorities will take further action based on the results of the ongoing lab tests, aiming to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of residents.
