Hyderabad’s GHMC Organises 73 Sites for Ganesh Idol Immersions

As the final day of Ganesh Navaratri approaches, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ensured extensive preparations for the immersion of Ganesh idols. With 73 designated locations across the city, the GHMC has established a variety of immersion ponds to accommodate the religious observances of thousands of devotees.

The immersion infrastructure includes 27 ‘baby ponds’ situated within existing lakes, 24 portable ponds for flexible use, and 22 excavated ponds, all set to handle idols ranging from two to five feet in height. This arrangement reflects a strategic approach to manage the large volume of immersions expected during the festivities.

In addition to pond preparations, the GHMC has undertaken several ancillary measures to ensure a smooth immersion process. The corporation has distributed 3.1 lakh clay Ganesh idols, which are environmentally friendly, promoting eco-conscious practices during the celebrations. Ahead of the immersion day, the GHMC has prioritised maintenance tasks including tree trimming and pothole filling along procession routes. These measures aim to enhance the safety and convenience of the participants. GHMC Commissioner has issued directives to ensure that all streetlights are operational and that sanitation is efficiently managed throughout the event.

To bolster sanitation efforts, the GHMC has deployed a sanitation team every kilometre along the immersion routes, tasked with maintaining cleanliness and managing waste. Essential services such as drinking water, mobile toilets, and cranes have been organised at all immersion sites to support the smooth execution of the event. These comprehensive arrangements by the GHMC underscore the corporation’s commitment to facilitating a well-organised and environmentally considerate immersion process, reflecting a proactive stance in managing one of Hyderabad’s major festive events.
