Mumbai’s Central Railway Updates Luggage Handling Fees

The Central Railway has revised its porterage charges, effective immediately, in response to new directives from the Railway Board. This adjustment affects the fees associated with luggage handling at various railway stations. Under the new tariff structure, passengers with luggage weighing up to 40 kg will see different rates based on the station’s classification. At major stations, the porterage charge is now set at Rs. 85 per trip. For medium-sized stations, the fee is Rs. 80, and at smaller stations, it is Rs. 75.

A waiting charge has been introduced Rs. 85 for large stations, Rs. 80 for medium stations, and Rs. 75 for small stations, applicable for every additional 30 minutes of waiting time beyond the initial free 30 minutes. Previously, the porterage fees were Rs. 75 at large stations, Rs. 70 at medium stations, and Rs. 65 at small stations. Notably, large stations within the Mumbai division include CSMT, LTT, Dadar, Thane, and Kalyan. For services involving the transfer of luggage between Central Railway and Western Railway at Dadar station, the revised charge is Rs. 85 per trip, provided the service duration does not exceed 30 minutes.

The new rates for wheeled barrow services, which cater to luggage up to 160 kg, are now Rs. 135 per trip for both two-wheeled and four-wheeled barrows. The charges for transporting sick or disabled individuals are Rs. 135 when two porters are involved and Rs. 205 when four porters are required. It is important to note that licensed porters, who assist passengers with their luggage, are not employees of the railways but are authorised and licensed by the Central Railway. They can be identified by their red shirts and arm badges with licence numbers. Passengers should ensure they pay only the charges displayed at designated areas within the stations.
