The anticipated completion of the Hindon Bridge, a crucial infrastructure project intended to enhance connectivity between Noida and Greater Noida, has been delayed until April 2026. The over 2-kilometre road, which is set to connect the Noida Expressway to Greater Noida’s LG Chowk via the Hindon Bridge, has encountered significant setbacks due to ongoing land acquisition issues.
The bridge, which spans 290 metres across the Hindon River, has seen only 30% of its construction completed thus far. The project, originally launched by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister in January 2019, was expected to wrap up within 18 months. However, complications related to land acquisition, particularly on the Noida Authority’s side, led to an extended halt in construction.
The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited (UPSBCL), the agency responsible for the bridge’s construction, has formally requested an 18-month extension to complete the remaining work. The delay also affects the approach roads at both ends of the bridge, which are being developed by the Noida and Greater Noida authorities. These roads, each approximately 1 kilometre in length, are anticipated to be completed concurrently with the bridge itself. Work on the bridge was temporarily suspended for two and a half years due to the aforementioned issues but resumed in November 2023. Construction on the approach roads began earlier this year as part of the project’s revival.
Upon its eventual completion, the Hindon Bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Noida and Greater Noida, as well as other key locations such as the district collectorate, Surajpur, and Ghaziabad, by approximately 16 kilometres. This improvement will alleviate traffic congestion, particularly at Pari Chowk, which is currently a bottleneck for commuters. The delay underscores the challenges faced in large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in securing and managing land resources. The Hindon Bridge is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to regional connectivity and ease the growing traffic demands of the area.
