Survey Reveals 60% of Mumbaikars Keen on Metro 3 Route

Mumbai: As Mumbai gears up for the launch of the first phase of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 route, a recent survey reveals significant public anticipation. According to Earth Global, a transport services consultancy, 60% of Mumbaikars are eager to use the new Metro 3 line, which will initially operate from Aarey to BKC. The survey, which involved 1,482 respondents from Andheri East, Vile Parle, Kalina, Bandra East, and Dharavi, indicates a strong interest in the Metro 3 route.

This interest is primarily driven by the desire for a faster, more efficient travel option. Currently, 60% of those surveyed use rickshaws or taxis, and the Metro 3 is seen as a promising alternative to these modes of transport. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is advancing with the 33.5 km Metro 3 line, although there have been delays. The Aarey to BKC section is expected to commence service soon, with the full route from Aarey to Cuffe Parade anticipated to be operational next year. This development is set to integrate the Metro 3 route with other metro lines, potentially boosting passenger numbers further.

The survey highlights that 63% of those who currently travel by rickshaws and taxis are particularly enthusiastic about the Metro 3. Additionally, 59% of bus and local train commuters, and 57% of private vehicle users, expressed eagerness to switch to the new metro line. Gender-wise, 58% of male and 57% of female respondents indicated their intention to use Metro 3, while interest varies across age groups. The highest enthusiasm is seen among the 46 to 60 age group (59%), with the 18 to 30 age group showing 58% interest, and 49% of those over 60 years expressing their intent to use the service.

Despite the positive outlook, concerns persist among 40% of potential users regarding safety and cost. Only 14.6% of women and 12.9% of men feel confident about the safety of Metro 3. Additionally, some respondents worry about the route’s coverage and the potential cost of fares. As the launch of Metro 3 approaches, the survey results underscore a growing demand for efficient public transport solutions in Mumbai, highlighting both excitement and reservations among the city’s residents.
