DMRC’s New QR Ticket Simplifies Metro Travel

In a significant enhancement to commuter convenience, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled its Multiple Journey QR Ticket (MJQRT) system. Announced on Thursday at Metro Bhawan, this initiative is designed to streamline the travel experience for metro passengers and advance the digitisation efforts of the transit system.

The MJQRT was introduced by DMRC’s Managing Director, who highlighted the initiative as a key component of the ‘Ease of Booking’ programme. The new system aims to replace the traditional method of purchasing individual QR tickets for each journey with a single, multifunctional QR code. This innovation is expected to simplify daily commuting and offer a more user-friendly experience.

The MJQRT will be accessible exclusively through the Delhi Metro Sarathi app, also known as Momentum 2.0. Registered users can begin with a balance of Rs 150, with no security deposit required. The app offers flexible recharge options, allowing users to add value in increments of Rs 50, up to a maximum of Rs 3,000. This system is not only designed for convenience but also incorporates cost-saving measures. Passengers will benefit from a ten per cent discount during peak hours (8 am to 12 noon and 5 pm to 9 pm) and a percentage discount during off-peak periods. This approach aims to make metro travel more economical and accessible.

A notable feature of the MJQRT is its security. In the event of a lost or stolen mobile device, users can safeguard their remaining balance. The balance can be recovered by logging into the app from another device, ensuring that funds remain protected. The launch of the MJQRT aligns with DMRC’s broader strategy to enhance passenger experience through innovative ticketing and payment solutions. The system is set to be available from tomorrow, promising a seamless and environmentally friendly alternative to physical tickets and smart cards.
