Adani Group to Supply 6,600 MW Hybrid Power to Maharashtra

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) and Adani Power Ltd (APL) have secured a bid to supply 6,600 MW of hybrid solar and thermal power to Maharashtra. This substantial deal was confirmed following a competitive bidding process initiated by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). Adani Green will enter into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL to supply 5,000 MW of solar power.

This power will be sourced from the world’s largest renewable energy park currently under development at Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat. The award, solidified through a Letter of Intent (LOI), positions AGEL as a key player in the global renewable energy sector, further advancing India’s clean energy ambitions. In tandem, Adani Power will sign a power supply agreement (PSA) for the provision of 1,496 MW of thermal power. This thermal power will be supplied from a new 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project. The thermal capacity will also be managed on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis, with coal sourced from linkages allocated under the SHAKTI policy.

An official from Adani Green Energy expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Maharashtra: “We are pleased to collaborate with MSEDCL to meet the state’s growing energy demands through renewable sources. Our goal is to accelerate India’s clean energy transition and move toward energy independence.” The solar capacity award of 5 GW, being the world’s largest since 2020, is a key milestone for AGEL. The awarded capacity is set at a competitive tariff of ₹2.70 per kWh for a period of 25 years, with projects developed over a staggered period of three years post-PPA execution.

Additionally, Adani Power’s thermal capacity award, the largest in recent years to the private sector, further strengthens its position in India’s energy sector. The company’s total installed thermal power capacity stands at 17,010 MW, distributed across 10 power plants. With both renewable and conventional power resources playing pivotal roles, the hybrid supply model will significantly contribute to Maharashtra’s energy requirements, helping the state balance its growing demand with sustainable and reliable power solutions.
