Ramco Cements Invests in Sustainable Growth

Ramco Cements has successfully increased its cement grinding capacity by nearly one million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This expansion was achieved through debottlenecking efforts at its Kalavatala Plant in Andhra Pradesh and the Valapady Grinding Unit in Tamil Nadu. Following this development, the company’s total grinding capacity now stands at an impressive 24.04 MTPA, reflecting an investment of Rs 58 crore.

At the Kalavatala Plant, the grinding capacity has been elevated from 1.5 MTPA to 2 MTPA, while the Valapady Grinding Unit has seen its capacity rise from 1.6 MTPA to 2 MTPA. This capacity enhancement marks a significant increase from the previous total of 23.14 MTPA, demonstrating Ramco’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for cement, particularly in a robust construction market. The regulatory approval for the increased capacities has been secured, allowing the company to operate at its enhanced capabilities. For the financial year ending March 31, 2024, Ramco Cements reported a commendable revenue of Rs 9,349.83 crore. The company operates a total of five integrated cement plants and six grinding units, solidifying its footprint in the Indian cement industry. This expansion not only positions Ramco Cements as a key player in the sector but also supports regional infrastructure development, thereby contributing to economic growth.

Sustainability remains a core focus for Ramco Cements. The enhancements at both the Kalavatala and Valapady units align with the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship. By investing in debottlenecking processes, Ramco is not only increasing its capacity but is also optimising its existing operations, thereby reducing the overall carbon footprint associated with cement production. The use of innovative technologies in these plants underscores Ramco’s dedication to sustainable practices in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the increased grinding capacity is likely to create job opportunities within the local communities, fostering economic development and enhancing the livelihoods of those in the vicinity. This aspect of growth illustrates the human angle of Ramco’s expansion strategy, as the company aims to contribute positively to society while pursuing its business objectives.

As the construction sector continues to thrive, driven by urbanisation and infrastructure development, Ramco Cements is poised to meet the escalating demand with its expanded capacity. The company’s proactive approach in enhancing its facilities not only strengthens its competitive edge but also aligns with its vision of sustainable growth in the cement industry.
