Maha Plans to Construct 4 Lakh Houses Under PMAY in 2023-24

According to the state’s recent budget, the Maharashtra government has set a target of constructing four lakh houses in 2023-24 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Of these, 60 per cent or 2.5 lakh will be reserved for Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe (SC, ST) beneficiaries, while 1.5 lakh households will be for other categories. The state government also aims to construct 10 lakh houses under the ‘Homes for All’ scheme in rural areas.

The budget, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also revealed plans to construct 1.5 lakh houses under the Ramai Awas Yojana, with 25,000 of them being reserved for the Matang community. The government will spend INR 1,800 crore on this project. One lakh houses will be constructed under the Shabri, Pardhi and Adim Awas Yojana at a cost of INR 1,200 crore. The Mukt Vasahat Yojana will build 25,000 houses for vimukta jati and nomadic tribes, and 25,000 houses will be for beneficiaries from Dhangar community, for which INR 600 crore will be allocated.

Moreover, the government will launch the Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana to construct 10 lakh houses for Other Backward Classes (OBC) beneficiaries in the next three years, with an outlay of INR 12,000 crore. The budget allocated INR 3,600 crore for constructing three lakh houses under this scheme in 2023-24.

The state government has also extended the 1 per cent waiver on stamp duty fees for women home buyers in the budget, which the real estate sector has welcomed. Fadnavis stated that women home buyers would continue to receive 1 per cent concession in stamp duty for purchasing a residential unit, and the condition that they cannot sell it to a male buyer for 15 years would also be relaxed.
