KEC International and BNC Power Secure Metro Phase 2 Contracts for Nagpur

KEC International Ltd. and BNC Power Projects Ltd. have been awarded crucial electrification contracts for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, marking a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility. This extension, spanning 43.8 kilometres, aims to address the city’s burgeoning transport needs and reduce traffic congestion, a common grievance among residents.

KEC International clinched Package TR-02 with a competitive bid of ₹207.36 crore, focused on the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a 25kV flexible overhead equipment (OHE) system. The estimated cost for this package was ₹205 crore, illustrating KEC’s effective bid strategy. Meanwhile, BNC Power Projects secured Package TR-03, involving the establishment of a 33 kV cable network and associated auxiliary and receiving substations, with a bid of ₹381 crore—10.72% above the initial estimate of ₹344 crore. This higher bid could necessitate negotiations, reflecting the complexities inherent in large-scale infrastructure projects. These contracts, expected to be completed within 180 weeks (approximately 3.5 years), are pivotal not just for the metro system but for the city’s sustainability efforts.
