Tamil Nadu Ports Receive INR 148 cr Infrastructure Boost

The ports of Chennai and Kamarajar in Tamil Nadu have received significant boost with the inauguration of infrastructure projects worth over INR 148 crore. The projects aim to increase the ports’ capacity and strengthen the state’s marine sector, with a particular focus on regional and export-import (Exim) trade.

Among the newly inaugurated projects is a bunker berth at Bharathi Dock, goods shed yard at Jolarpet, and a sewage treatment plant at Chennai Port. The 15,000 sq mtr goods shed yard is equipped with loading and stacking facilities, which will make it easier to move cargo from the railway to Chennai Port, thus increasing container traffic to the port.

This investment in infrastructure is part of a larger effort by the Indian government to upgrade the country’s ports and shipping industry, which includes development of new ports and expansion of existing ones. The infrastructure boost is expected to enhance trade in the region and attract more investment to Tamil Nadu’s marine sector.

The investment in infrastructure is a positive sign for development of India’s ports and shipping industry which has seen significant growth in recent years. With continued investment in modernisation and expansion, the industry is poised for further success.

The infrastructure boost in Tamil Nadu is likely to have a ripple effect on the region’s economy, attracting more investment and generating employment opportunities. It also underscores the Indian government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s ports and shipping industry and making it more competitive on global stage.
