Adani Group-owned Mumbai Airport has successfully completed its annual post-monsoon runway maintenance, a critical operation designed to uphold the highest safety and operational standards. The comprehensive maintenance, which took place on Thursday, began at 11 am and concluded by 5 pm, during which all flight operations were temporarily suspended.
The airport’s proactive approach is evident in its planning; a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months prior, allowing airlines and stakeholders to adjust their schedules accordingly. This foresight reflects the airport’s commitment to maintaining a smooth operational flow, minimising disruptions for passengers and airlines alike. Key maintenance activities were extensive and varied, focusing on several crucial aspects of the runway infrastructure. This included the installation of runway edge lights at the intersection of runway 14/32 and the clearance of debris from underground ducts beneath runway 09-27. Additionally, the strength of the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) for runways 09 and 27 was validated, and significant repairs were conducted at runway intersections.
The engineering team has meticulously inspected over 5,000 aeronautical ground lights, drainage systems, and essential cables at Mumbai Airport. These thorough checks are crucial for immediate operational safety and the long-term sustainability of airport infrastructure.
