175 km Section of Dedicated Freight Corridor to Open in 6 Months

As the construction of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor enters its final phase, the Ambala unit is gearing up to commission a 175.1 km section, stretching from Sahnewal in Punjab to Pilkhani in Uttar Pradesh, within the next six months. The project was divided into three parts, with Sahnewal to Shambhu in Punjab covering 81.6 km, Shambhu to Kalanaur in Haryana covering 76.7 km, and Kalanaur to Pilkhani in Uttar Pradesh covering 16.8 km.

With 1,724 km of the total 2,843 km project already commissioned, the average speed of freight trains has increased from 25 km per hour to 65 km per hour. Additionally, 11 out of the 14 new stations designated for the loading and unloading of goods and for allowing crossings have already been constructed.

The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is an ambitious project aimed at reducing the logistics cost of transportation and stimulating economic growth. Once fully completed, the corridor will stretch from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal and is expected to revolutionise the freight transportation system in India.

The construction of the corridor has been a mammoth undertaking, with numerous challenges along the way. However, with 1,724 km already commissioned, the project is well on its way to completion. The upcoming commissioning of the 175.1 km section from Sahnewal to Pilkhani is another significant milestone in the development of the corridor.

The project’s success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the teams involved in its construction. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is poised to transform the way goods are transported across the country, making the transportation process more efficient and cost-effective.
