UP to Receive INR 28,506 cr for Road and Bridge Infra Revamp

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MRTH) has sanctioned a staggering INR 28,506 crore for Uttar Pradesh’s road and bridge infrastructure, out of the total budget of INR 1.11 lakh crore for the nation. The state plans to use these funds for construction of ring roads, flyovers and railway over bridges, among other projects. Additionally, the government has allocated INR 5,000 crore to introduce new technology for constructing bridges on railway crossings.

The state government also plans to construct concrete roads in areas that are left behind after the construction of bypass highways under a one-time maintenance policy. Bamboo crash barriers will be installed along the state’s roads instead of metal railings. This initiative aims to provide a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to traditional metal railings.

Furthermore, the Union government and the World Bank have signed an agreement for construction of the Green National Highway Corridors Project (GNHCP). The project involves construction of 781 km of Green highways in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, with loan assistance of USD 500 million.

The project aims to promote sustainable development by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving biodiversity.
