Mumbai Airport Records Strong Passenger Traffic in First Half of FY24-25

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has continued its upward trajectory, recording substantial growth in both passenger and cargo traffic during the first half of the 2024-25 financial year (April to September 2024). The airport welcomed a total of 27 million passengers during this period, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year. International passenger traffic saw a remarkable 11% surge, with 7.4 million international travelers choosing CSMIA as their gateway to India.

Domestic passenger traffic also experienced a positive trend, with a 3% increase, totaling 19.2 million passengers. CSMIA’s cargo operations also witnessed robust growth, handling 447,435 metric tons of cargo, a 13% increase over the same period last year. This growth can be attributed to the addition of new airline partners such as Challenge Air, Vietnam Airlines, and SF Airlines, which has expanded the airport’s global connectivity. The strong performance of CSMIA reflects the growing importance of Mumbai as a major aviation hub in India. The airport’s strategic location, coupled with its world-class infrastructure and efficient operations, has made it a preferred choice for both passengers and cargo carriers. As India’s economy continues to grow and international travel picks up pace, CSMIA is well-positioned to further enhance its position as a leading global airport.

As India’s aviation sector continues to expand, CSMIA is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for air travel. The airport’s focus on sustainability, digital innovation, and passenger experience will further solidify its position as a leading global aviation hub. In the coming years, CSMIA is likely to witness further growth in passenger and cargo traffic, driven by factors such as increased economic activity, rising disposable incomes, and the growing popularity of air travel. The airport’s strategic location and world-class infrastructure will continue to attract airlines and passengers alike. To accommodate the growing demand, CSMIA is undertaking various expansion projects, including the development of new terminals and runways. These initiatives will further enhance the airport’s capacity and efficiency, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.
