Kolkata’s New Town has achieved recognition by winning awards in three categories at the Smart Cities India Awards 2023, supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Centre’s Smart Cities Mission. The New Town Green Smart City Corporation (NKGSCC) is now planning to further promote solar and renewable energy initiatives in the township.
Among the 14 different award categories, New Town received recognition in three significant areas: Smart City of the Year, Smart Energy Project for Non-Conventional Sources, and Best Green Buildings Project. A senior official from NKGSCC expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “This recognition will inspire us to undertake more projects that are environment-friendly.”
The recent recognition received by New Town highlights its dedication to sustainable development and innovative initiatives. The township is striving to create an environment that promotes the use of renewable energy sources and green practices. The awards serve as encouragement for New Town to continue its efforts towards building an environmentally conscious and technologically advanced city.
