Bengaluru Traffic Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving and Violations

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) launched a special drive from December 5 to 8, intensifying efforts to combat drunk driving and other traffic violations in the city. During the drive, the BTP inspected 16,384 vehicles, resulting in 183 cases of drunk driving. Offenders had their driving licences seized, which were subsequently sent to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTO) for suspension.

Focus on Road Safety and Enforcement
The initiative, aimed at promoting road safety and curbing reckless driving, also saw 379 drivers booked for using no-entry routes, accumulating fines of Rs 1.92 lakh. A total of 986 traffic violations were registered, with infractions ranging from one-way violations (260 cases), to no-parking offenses (156 cases), and riding on footpaths (59 cases). Other violations included triple riding (50 cases) and footpath riding (82 cases).

Fines and Penalties
In total, the drive generated a significant revenue of Rs 4.98 lakh in fines, underscoring the importance of adherence to traffic laws. The Bengaluru Traffic Police’s focused efforts reflect a renewed commitment to tackling issues such as drunk driving and ensuring road discipline.

Long-term Impact on Traffic Discipline
While the drive has successfully addressed immediate violations, the long-term impact on Bengaluru’s traffic culture will depend on continued enforcement, awareness campaigns, and public cooperation. Drivers must recognise the importance of responsible driving for the safety of themselves and others on the road.
