Technical Glitch Disrupts Harbour Line Services Near Chuna Bhatti

A technical glitch near Chuna Bhatti station led to brief disruptions in Mumbai’s busy suburban train services on the Harbour Line on Thursday evening. The incident, which occurred during peak hours, involved a malfunction that triggered the Auxiliary Warning System (AWS), causing a local train to halt for three to four minutes.

According to a Central Railway official, the issue was swiftly addressed, and train operations resumed shortly after the temporary halt. Despite the quick resolution, the glitch caused delays to several other trains on the Harbour Line, leading to significant inconvenience for thousands of passengers during the evening rush. This technical snag follows a similar disruption on Wednesday, when Harbour Line suburban services were also affected by a separate technical issue. The repeated occurrences of such glitches have raised concerns among passengers about the reliability of Mumbai’s suburban railway network.

“These repeated disruptions highlight the urgent need for more consistent maintenance of Mumbai’s suburban services,” said a passenger activist, emphasising the strain on daily commuters who rely on the network for their travel needs. While the glitch was promptly addressed, the impact on train schedules during peak hours underscores the vulnerability of the system. Commuters are calling for improved monitoring and maintenance procedures to ensure that such technical issues do not cause further disruptions in the future, particularly during the busy rush hours.
