Lululemon Partners with Samsara Eco to Achieve Infinite Textile Recycling

Lululemon, the Canadian active wear giant, has partnered strategically with Samsara Eco, an Australian startup known for its ground-breaking plastic-eating enzyme technology. The collaboration aims to create the world’s first infinitely recycled textiles, marking a significant milestone in the fight against textile waste.

Samsara Eco aims to combat global plastic crisis through its innovative infinite recycling process. The startup has developed a plastic-eating enzyme capable of breaking down plastic into its core molecules, which manufacturers can use to create new items, establishing a closed-loop recycling system.

The collaboration between Lululemon and Samsara Eco seeks to bring ‘scale circularity’ to textile-to-textile recycling and tackle the issue of textile waste. According to research cited by Samsara Eco, approximately 87 per cent of discarded textiles end up in landfills, incinerated or released into the environment.

Australia, in particular, faces a significant textile waste challenge, ranking as the second-highest consumer of textiles per person globally, according to a report by the Australian Fashion Council. 93 per cent of materials in Australia eventually end up in landfills.

The partnership between Lululemon and Samsara Eco represents a significant step forward in the global fight against textile waste. By combining their expertise and resources, the two companies aim to revolutionise the apparel industry and set new standards for sustainable practices.
