Western Railway Introduces 15-Car Non-AC Train to Address Commuter Concerns from Bhayandar

Western Railway (WR) has introduced a 15-car non-AC local train from Bhayandar station, aiming to alleviate overcrowding during peak hours. The decision comes after the 8:24 am non-AC Bhayandar local train was converted to an AC local in late November, causing significant unrest among passengers who relied on the non-AC service to reach Churchgate by 10 am.

The 8:24 am local train, which had been a staple for many commuters, was seeing heavy patronage due to its timing, making it an essential option for those traveling during the morning rush hour. As a result of the growing demand for AC services, WR increased the number of AC local trains across the Mumbai Suburban network starting November 27, replacing existing non-AC services. The decision to convert the 8:24 am non-AC service to an AC local was met with protests, particularly as passengers struggled to find alternative trains that could accommodate the growing crowd. To address the concerns of passengers, Western Railway took swift action. On December 16, 2024, WR began operating a 15-car local train at 8 am, traveling from Bhayandar to Churchgate, which would also return at 9:09 am from Churchgate to Nalasopara. This new service, identified as train number 90208, boosts capacity by 33%, ensuring more room for passengers without compromising on speed or comfort.

This adjustment reflects WR’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience for commuters, particularly those traveling during peak hours. By introducing the 15-car non-AC train, Western Railway has not only responded to the demands of regular passengers but has also improved capacity and reduced overcrowding, ultimately making commuting more manageable for those traveling from Bhayandar. For many, this development will ease the strain of daily commutes, especially as Mumbai’s suburban railway network continues to serve a growing population. With these changes, WR is showing a keen understanding of commuter needs, balancing the introduction of modern amenities like AC trains while ensuring that those who prefer non-AC services are also well-catered to.
