Ahmedabad Airport’s Electric Shuttles Revolutionise Travel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad has taken a significant step toward greener transportation by introducing a free electric shuttle bus service. Designed to elevate passenger convenience while championing eco-friendly travel, these shuttles embody modernity and sustainability. With spacious 2×2 seating and automatic ramps, they ensure accessibility for all, including individuals with special needs. Additionally, pneumatic dual doors with finger protection systems and CCTV cameras add layers of safety for a secure journey.

The shuttle service runs every 30 minutes, bridging Terminals 1 and 2, with a pause during the night hours of 11 pm to 3 am. Each bus offers air-conditioned interiors with advanced bacterial filtration systems, promising a clean and healthy environment. For passenger comfort, features like free Wi-Fi, 24-inch screens, premium sound systems, and digital clocks provide seamless connectivity and entertainment during transit. This blend of comfort and technology makes the journey smooth and engaging for passengers navigating between terminals.

Aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, the airport’s transition to electric vehicles is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 tonnes of CO2 annually. Furthermore, this initiative is expected to save approximately 7,500 litres of fossil fuels every year. By adopting electric shuttles, the airport demonstrates its commitment to addressing global sustainability challenges while ensuring operational efficiency. Such efforts align with international practices where transportation hubs are adopting green technologies to reduce environmental impact.

The introduction of this eco-friendly service sets a benchmark in Indian aviation. Beyond offering a comfortable commute, it reflects a forward-thinking approach to public transport, combining environmental responsibility with passenger satisfaction. As India grapples with urbanisation and climate challenges, such initiatives showcase the potential of green innovation in reshaping the travel experience and addressing civic and environmental concerns.
